Five Candle Care Tips For Getting the Most Out of Your cocofico Candle

Scented candles are the perfect way to transform any space and can impact your mood almost immediately. The flicker and glow of a flame can instantly relax you.

I have pulled together some of my favourite tips for making your candle go further:

THE FIRST TIME

When lighting your candle for the first time, let it burn until the top layer has melted (approx. 4 hours) to ensure an even burn every time after. If you don't have time for a longer burn, I would recommend waiting to light your candle. You might think lighting it for shorter periods of time makes it last longer but, in fact, the opposite is true. You could be decreasing the life of your candle by creating walls of wax (tunnelling) which end up drowning your wick.

TRIM THAT WICK

We have all been guilty of lighting a candle without trimming the wick but, believe me, trimming will give your candle a brighter, cleaner burn.

I recommend keeping you wick trimmed to 5mm after each burn. A  large wick gives a larger flame and therefore burns your candle quicker

I don't have a wick trimmer so tend to use scissors, nail clippers do a great job too.

DRAUGHTY SPACES

if you notice your candle flame flickering a lot and candle wax build up on one side of your vessel, your candle could be in a draughty location and ruining the burn time of your candle.

KEEP IT CLEAN

Keeping the surface of your  candle clean and debris free will extend its life. Sooty debris can act as a second wick and will burn your candle down much more quickly. The best thing to do is to wait until your candle is cool and using a soft cloth, wipe away any dust or soot.

RE-USE YOUR GLASS

Your cocofico candle glass can be reused for storing pens and pencils, make up brushes and even used as a planter for herbs.

We are currently working on, and hope to launch in the new year, candle refills! This is part of our sustainability ethos and means less candle glass is used only once.
